The view from my beer
A half litre of Tromsø’s own local brew, Isbjørn Pilsener enjoyed while sitting dockside in central Tromsø
Tromsø
The city of Tromsø reminded me a lot of Hobart. It is located in the cold end of the country, beneath a large mountain and serviced by a familiar looking bridge that spans the nearby estuary. In this case its the Tromsøysundet strait. Tromsø is regarded as being one of the best places to view the northern lights. Unforunately one of the down-sides of visiting when there is 24 hours of sunshine is that the noerthern lights are not on the menu.

My Walk
The walk into central Tromsø from the cruise terminal was around 4km each way. The route was flat and had some interesting sights along the way. Definitely a better option than the cruise shuttle buses. The sides of the streets featured a lot of flowers and there were some interesting buildings.

Tromsø Botanical Gardens
Right next to the cruise terminal was the world’s nothernmost botanical gardens boasting a wide range of plants from northern Norway.

Central Tromsø
Central Tromsø was beautiful. It boasted a very distinctive Norwegian look and feel. And like many of the cities we have visited, it is surrounded by water with soaring snow-capped hills and mountains above.

Across the bridge was the Arctic Cathedral.
Rakketen (Rocket) Bar
Claiming to the smallest bar in the universe, the Rakketn Bar is located on the side of a street in central Tromsø. It is 3.6 square metres, but does have a separate area to sit and drink behind. Despite its size, or perhaps because of its size, it had a long line of patrons lining up to order drinks.
