The View From My Beer
My first ever beer from a (half) yard glass at the famous Long Bar of Raffles Hotel. It was a haralf yard of Tiger Lager, the local Singapore beer. The view is of the famous clock tht still stands today behind the main bar in the Long Room.
Singapore
A two-night stopover in Singapore to break the journey of a business trip to London. Singapore is known as the “Lion City” due to a legend about a prince who saw a lion there, even though no lions have ever lived there. The country is a small island city-state with 63 other islands, one of the smallest countries in the world, and has unique laws like banning chewing gum on the streets, except for medical reasons. Trees cover over 50% of Singapore. It has long been a popular stover for Qantas flights between London and Australia on QF1 (SYD-LHR) and QF2 (LHR-SYD).
Note: This post was created 25-years after my visit. My memories of the visit have faded a little, which is why it is good to record this experience while there is some meories that remain.

It has hot and steamy, but I was determined to get out and abaout and take a look at Singapore.
Singapore City

There were probably only two things I knew about Singapore when I arrived – Orchard Road, and Raffles. I made these priorities for my visit. The highlight was definitely Raffles. I had not heard about the origins of the Singapore Sling, but I was definitely interested in the idea of trying out a yard glass of beer in the fabled Long Room.
Sentosa Island

Later in the afternoon I made my way to Sentosa Island. I heard this was the Southernmost point in Continental Asia. It was a bit of a walk, but I finally made it to Siloso Beach. I remember the beach, as i was not really dressed for beach weather. Fortunately the photo had the name of the beach I visited. The 35m merlion in the first
