While I was not born in Tasmania, I consider myself to be a Tasmanian thanks to the time I spent growing up in Tasmania and the history of my family as Tasmanian pioneers. The following is a summary of my direct ancestors and the connection we all share with Tasmania. There are a lot of interesting stories that can be told about their times in Tasmania that I will cover in other posts.
Tasmanian Heritage
Both my parents, four grandparents and eight great grandparents were born in Tasmania. All sixteen of my second great-grandparents lived in Tasmania, with thirteen of them having been born in Tasmania:-
- William Thomas Presnell (born 1829 in Glenorchy, Tasmania)

- William Reid (arrived 1855 from Liverpool, England)
- Annie Dallas (arrived 1887 from Aberdeenshire, Scotland)
- Jabez Poke (born 1848 in Forrest, Tasmania)
- Jane Bisset (arrived 1871 from Lanarkshire, Scotland)

- Herbert Neal (born 1866 in Westbury, Tasmania)

Based upon my research so far, I have identified 19 ancestors who were transported to Australia as convicts. They, or their children, found their way to Tasmania directly or via Norfolk island. An additional 24 ancestors arrived in Tasmania as free settlers between 1827 and 1887.
