The View From My Beer
I had two options today. I settled on a view of the fjords from a glass of FossAWatn Lager at the local microbrewery, Dokkan Brugghus.
Isafjordur

The sixth stop on my 14-day cruise to Norway & Iceland was the very scenic Vestfirðir region. It is locted on a large peninsular that extends out from the northwest corner of Iceland. The jagged coastline in this area, created by glaciers accounts for 50% of Iceland’s total coastline. We had four cruise ships in port today, which demonstrates the importance the tourist industry is now playing in this area. Each one of the cruise ships contains more people that Isafjordor itself. The hottest temperature ever recorded here was 24.8C. It wasn’t today as we reached about 12C.
My Walk

Our ship was anchored the furtherest out of the four and it took around 30-minutes to water taxi to the port. I did some research before heading off and decided on a circular route around the peninsular on which Isafjordur was located.

The initial loop was around one side of the fjord before tearning back for a small climb up to the viewing point of the city. It was located directly above an avalanche dam used to protect the town from the potential impact of falling snow from the soaring hills that rise above the town.

I then wandered into town and did a few circuits looking for interesting things. The town had a lot of old wooden buildings. They were either painted white or in bright coloirs. There was not a lot of in-between. I passed the local supermarket and saw a dog patiently sitting outside. Two hours later I returned to purchase a few goodies and the dog was still there!
