The View From My Beer
Today I visited the Griffin hotel. My research suggested this was likely to be a classic Scottish pub and it didn’t disappoint. The bonus was they focused on beers from the Island of Skye. I settled on a pint of Skye Lager. It was pretty damn good. I loved the glass it came in too! It kind of fitted in with the street art theme for today.
Glasgow
The eight and final stop on my 14-day cruise to Norway & Iceland was Glasgow. This was my second visit to Glasgow, having visited on a previous cruise earlier in the month.
My Walk
After our ship docked in Greenock, I took the train into Glasgow, a 30-minute journey. I stopped on the way at Port Glasgow as I wanted to get some photos of a sculpture I had seen from the train on my previous visit. After I arrived in Glasgow I used an on-line map that pointed out where various street murals could be found. This allowed me to take a somewhat random walk around the city that took in a number of other fascinating sites.
Port Glasgow

The trains between Greenock and Glasgow Central ran every 30 minutes. This gave me 30-minutes to jump off one train at Portg Glasgow (half way), and then jump back on the next one.
Glasgow City

On my previous visit to Glasgow, I did not spend a lot of time in the central city area. Today, I had a much better chance to absorb a lot of interesting places. Glasgow is an old city and there are a lot of roads and building under construction and maintenance. In between the piles of rubble and construction walls there were a lot of really cool things. I’d put Glasgow in the list of places to return at another time should the chance ever present itself.
Glasgow Architecture

Glasgow was quite eclectic, with a range of both modern and classical architecture. That’s without including the stunning buildings I visited on my previous visit along the River Clyde. A lot of the newer architecture could be found around the large university campuses.
Glasgow Street Art

There was a lot of great street art on display. Glasgow provided the best examples of street art since my visit to Bristol. There was also a lot of graffiti around town, some of which was pretty good. My one concern was that a lot of the graffiti was encroaching on the street art.
